Something new on the workbench.. This is another Egmond guitar, made in Holland, by the sub-brand Frima. Other sub-brands such as Lion, Miller, Rosetti, Manhattan and Orpheum to name a few… are better known in the online community, and thus, there is a whole lot more info to find. This particular model mostly resembles an Orpheum 12 string. Two pickups, trapeze tailpiece, 3way-switch on the lower horn..
But the neck is certainly a six string, and some laquer has worn off near the bridge, so I guess it used to have a tremolo-unit of some kind. I got this guitar with no electronics or hardware whatsoever, only the small lower horn pickguard for the 3way-switch which was kept in place by a single small screw. So, the neck and frets are still in top condition and no cracks in the body, just a bit of missing paint from where the bridge and such used to be.

In terms of power and clean headroom it is the smallest of all the Fender piggy back amps. The blackface Tremolux and Bandmaster AB are almost identical amps, just that the Tremolux is sized for smaller events and gigs. The Tremolux had tube rectifier, while the blackface Bandmaster had diode.

The source-date code on a pot is a 6 or 7 digit code impressed into the casing of the potentiometer. For speakers this code can be 5, 6, 7 or 8 digits long, and it’s ink-stamped or paint-stamped on the “bell housing” of the speaker. In either case, the code works the same. The first 3 digits on a pot, or the first 2, 3 or 4 digits on a speaker are the source or manufacturer code. The remaining 3 or 4 digits are the date code. In 3 digit dates code, the 1st digit is the last digit of the year.
Guitars. Buying a new guitar is a considerable investment for most of us. To get the best possible experience, it is therefore important that you’ve done some research and decided on what kind of model you’re looking for.
The first Fender solidbody model, the Esquire , lasted in name only from June to October This model name was replaced by the “Broadcaster”, which lasted in name only from the October to January All Broadcasters have truss rods, where many Esquires often have no truss rod. In Gretsch had trademarked the name “BroadKaster” for a line of drums.
After advertising the Broadcaster in music trade papers in February 20, , Gretsch took notice and sent Fender a telegram asking them to change their name. Therefore Fender was forced to drop the name Broadcaster. Starting around February 22, , Fender cut the word “Broadcaster” off of their headstock decals. These models February to summer are known as “NoCasters”. Starting in the summer of , Fender adopted the name “Telecaster” for this model, and started using new decals after all the old clipped decals were used.

The body is made of highly flamed maple, absolutely gorgeous. And most of all, there is a detail we have never encountered on a Country Club: The sound post connects top and back, giving the guitar a greater rigidity, to avoid feedback problems when played really loud. No heavy dings, no heavy wear. The binding deterioration, so common on ’60 Gretsches, was becoming a real problem on the guitar’s body, since it just could not be stopped in any way.
So, instead of keeping on touching it up by replacing the damaged pieces one at a time, we have chosen to ask our luthier Salvatore Mancuso to complety restore it. The restoration job is just perfect, since Mancuso has used exactly the same material, dimentions and colour of the original binding. More rare details make of this guitar a true “collector’s item”: Rare and interesting indeed!
All in all, an exceptional guitar, rare and beautiful, with the same sound and circuitry of period’s s, but with an unique look and personality, with a great natural blond finish and a fantastic flamed maple body. Introduced inl as the budget model in the Chet Atkins line, the Tennessean mod.

Its strength lies in the sweetness and early breakup caused by the smaller transformers than the Super Reverb, Vibroverb and Pro Reverb. Hence, less clean headroom. Like all silverface amps, the Vibrolux Reverb was modified in the CBS periods to increase the clean headroom. Speakers, tubes and caps needs to be replaced and these will affect the tone a lot. You can hear the sparkling tones coming from the Jensen C10q supported by the strong lower mids from the Weber.

About the size of a Fender Twin, it has the classic tweed look of late s Gibson amplifiers. The only effect that the amp features is tremolo, but this is to be expected since the design predates the age of combo amps with on-board reverb The Gibson catalog claims true vibrato pitch modulation for this amp, but after listening to the true vibrato Magnatone amps, the Gibson sounds like it has tremolo volume modulation very similar to that used on brown Tolex Fenders i. They play an important role in the unique sound of this amp which we’ll get to in a moment.
First, let’s go over the tube compliment. Every true stereo amp has two separate power amps.

Lightly built with scalloped braces and hot hide glue construction, with a slightly deeper body for extra low end. This is from the new limited run of Brazilian R9s from Gibson. The guitar has a great top and weight – it only weighs 8. This is from the new limited run of Brazilian R9s — and the lefties are even more rare, with only a handful made. The Brazilian R9 Les Pauls have been among the most collectable of modern-era guitars.

I have seen four A stamps on Natural finished bodies, and a trans-red with an A stamp. I’ve seen a C on a Monaco Yellow and a Sunburst. I have also seen a D, along with an A on a Sunburst body. This is just a theory, but if only A’s were put on Natural finished guitars as an example, it could help determine if a guitar is refinished. The number will have an ‘S’ prefix possibly an ‘E’, read below followed by a six digit number.
The first digit is supposed to reflect the year of manufacture, but there are major overlaps in this regard, and the serial number should not be used to ID a guitar’s exact year of manufacture. The last five digits are basically random. An important thing to look for are the matching serial number stickers in the neck pocket and on the pickguard. All bodies are Ash, and usually a heavy piece. Most Natural and Sunburts finished guitars seem to be three-piece bodies, painted ones may be more.

About Guitars Buying a new guitar is a considerable investment for most of us. An instrument is all about inspiration. You are the musician and the guitar is the tool you use to express your feelings and music. This has nothing to do with what models you choose or how much they cost. Some basic knowledge about the different wood types, neck and body profiles, pickups etc will help you in making the best choice. However, over the last decade or so, the MIMs has gotten a considerable face lift and the overall quality is very high.
In fact, the reason why they are cheaper, ha sless to do with quality but rather lower labour costs, cheaper type of laquer and apply methods etc. Japanese Fenders are considered to be above the Mexicans and perhaps even just as good as the US. In the 80s and early 90s, Japanese Fenders were well known for being superior to any other models and the quality is still top notch. Maple or rosewood necks?
